Helium balloons instantly create a festive atmosphere — they fill the space with color, lightness, and joy. However, they often start to deflate after a few hours… So, how long do helium balloons really float, and how can you keep them looking beautiful longer?
How long do different types of balloons float? Not all helium balloons are the same — their floating time depends on the material, size, and conditions.
Latex balloons (regular rubber balloons) float for approximately 8–12 hours if not treated with a special protective agent. If treated with a special gel like Hi-Float, they can last up to 2–3 days. Outdoors, in sunlight or wind, their floating time is shorter — heat causes the helium to expand, while cold makes it contract.
Foil balloons stay in the air for 5–7 days, sometimes even longer if kept out of heat and direct sunlight.
  • Smaller balloons float for a shorter time, while larger ones last longer because they contain more helium.

HOW LONG DO HELIUM BALLOONS LAST AND HOW TO EXTEND THEIR LIFESPAN?

27.10.2025
How to make balloons float longer? Here are a few simple tips you can follow at home or at your event venue.
  1. Keep balloons indoors. Balloons last best at moderate temperatures (around +20 °C). In sunlight or cold, helium changes volume — heat can make balloons burst, while cold causes them to shrink and deflate faster.
  2. Don’t place balloons near windows, radiators, humidifiers, or clothes dryers. Direct sunlight, heat, humidity, or drafts can cause balloons to lose shape and deflate more quickly.
  3. Choose balloons treated with “Hi-Float.” Balloons filled with Hi-Float can float for 2–3 days instead of just a few hours. This special solution coats the inside of the balloon and slows down helium leakage.
  4. Receive balloons on the day of your event. If the balloons are for an evening party, it’s best to get them 2–3 hours before the event. This ensures they are in perfect shape exactly when needed.
Balloons are a part of the festive atmosphere — they always bring joy, but they need a little care to last longer.
If you want your balloons to float all day or even for several days, order them with Hi-Float treatment or ask us which option is best.
We’ll make sure your celebration balloons not only float beautifully but also last long.\
